Arabesca Scarlet Moon, grey mare, 2013. (Sidi Scorpio / Arabesca Exquisite). Breeder: Arabesca Arabians, Gillian Oosthuysen. Owner: Al Amal Arabians. Strain: Kehaileh Mimrehieh (Freiha)
The Arab Horse Society of South Africa have awarded the 2024 Trophy to the lovely mare, Arabesca Scarlet Rose for her contributions to the breed in South Africa.
Citation from the Society:
Arabesca Scarlet Moon, a mare who has truly set the bar for excellence in the Arabian horse world:
Arabesca Scarlet Moon has proven to be an extraordinary ambassador for the Arabian breed in South Africa and beyond. Owned by Al Amal Arabians and bred by Arabesca Arabians, she has not only been a stunning mare but an exceptional broodmare, consistently passing on her extreme type and elegance to her foals.
Her legacy is most beautifully represented by her son, Azeem Al Amal. But Arabesca Scarlet Moon’s impact doesn’t stop there. Her influence has sparked a wave of excellence among South African breeders, inspiring them to aim for the highest standards in breeding. As a locally bred mare from a small breeder with a clear vision, she represents the potential of South Africa’s Arabian horse industry and serves as a role model for breeders both locally and internationally.
Citation from her breeder, Gillian Oosthuysen:
Arabesca Scarlet Moon is not only a stunning mare but an extraordinary broodmare with a remarkable ability to enhance the best qualities of her stallion and impart her own extreme type to her foals.
She is the dam of the sensational Azeem Al Amal, a colt who has captured the attention of the European show circuit. At the prestigious Valkenswaard show, Azzaam was a wildcard, competing against 20 of the finest colts in Europe. Handled expertly by Wynand Bouwer, Azzaam secured 2nd place in his class, advancing to the Championship, where he captivated the crowd with his extreme beauty and dynamic presence. In the Championship, Azzaam was awarded the title of Bronze Champion Colt. This remarkable achievement for an unknown colt from South Africa is a testament to Scarlet Moon’s exceptional contribution to the breed.
Furthermore, Azzaam will be competing in the World Championships in Paris in December, under the ownership of Albidayer Stud, UAE, continuing the legacy of excellence that Scarlet Moon has helped establish.
I nominate Arabesca Scarlet Moon not only because of her outstanding offspring but also because of her origins as a locally bred mare, produced by a small breeder with a clear vision. Scarlet Moon’s exceptional colt, Azzaam Al Amal, was a result of a carefully planned pairing with El Galal Baahir, and his success has had a profound impact on South African breeders, encouraging them to strive for greater excellence in breeding.
This nomination highlights the contribution of small breeders to the Arabian horse industry and showcases the potential of locally bred horses. Arabesca Scarlet Moon has undeniably raised the standard, inspiring breeders in South Africa to aim for producing horses of the highest quality.
I sincerely thank Arabesca Scarlet Moon for her significant contributions to the Arabian horse industry and firmly believe that her nomination for the WAHO Trophy is well-deserved.
